Jail term for builder for cheating customers

Jail term for builder for cheating customers

Hyderabad, April 29: In a sensational judgement, TS Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission slapped jail term on a builder for not handing over flats. Six months sentence was imposed in three different cases, which will be implemented one after another.

Several consumers complained to the commission that Gharonda Builders owner Sunil J Sachdev collected money from them but didn’t handed over the flats to them. After inquiry, the commission gave judgment in 2017, ordering the builders to pay Rs 12.43 lakh with 12% interest to TR Kumar of Secunderabad; Rs 40.62 lakh with 9% interest to R Eswari Prasad and another three consumers; and Rs 21.97 lakh with 9% interest to Ch Anand of Narasaraopet of Andhra Pradesh.

When the Builders didn’t pay the money, the victims again filed a petition with the commission in 2017. After hearing the petition, commission president Justice MSK Jaiswal and Members Meena Ramanathan and K Rangarao gave the verdict recently.

Builder submitted a petition in the civil court seeking to declare him as insolvent to get out of the obligation to hand over flats to the customers. The court rejected his plea.
