Carnatic vocalist Nedunuri Krishnamurthy dies in Vizag

Visakhapatnam, Dec 8: On of the greatest Carnatic vocalist Nedunuri Krishnamuthy passed away on Monday morning. Krishnamuthy was 87-years-old. The Nada Yogi, born in Kothapalli village of Pithapuram mandal in East Godavari distrit of Andhra Pradesh on October 10 of 1927, was unwell for some time and was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Visakhapatnam at the time of his death. His parents were Ramamurthy and Vijayalakshmi. His mother was his first teacher in Carnatic music. Later, he joined the Maharaja's Sangeeta Kalasala in Vizianagaram and learnt violin under Dwaram Narasimha Rao Naidu. He later learnt vocal Carnatic music under Sripada Pinakapani. He went on to work as a principal of several music colleges in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He was the asthana vidwan of Tirupati Tirumala Devesthanam and Kanchi Kamakoti. Krishna Gana Sabha of Madras conferred the title of Sangeeta Chudamani on him, while the Madras Music Academy conferred the title of Sangeeta Kalanidhi on him. He later got several titles to his credit. He was know to be one among the Manodharma Carnatic Sangeet Vidwans. Nedunuri was a music connoisseur’s delight. His last rites will take place in Vizag itself.
