US Consulate delegation calls on Chandrababu, KTR
Hyderabad, Dec 2: A delegation from the United States led by Puneet Talwar, the U.S. Assistant Secretary heading the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs in the Department of State, has called on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and later met Telangana's IT Minister KT Rama Rao.
They discussed issues like setting up a new consulate in AP and inviting US President Barack Obama to Hyderabad.
During their discussions with the AP chief minister, Naidu requested the American delegation to set up a new Consulate office in Andhra Pradesh.
The American officials in principle agreed to set up a consulate office after considering issues like security, governance and geographic conditions.
They also discussed issues relating to Indians visiting the US for study, employment and entrepreneurship.
Later, the American delegation meet Telangana Minister KT Rama Rao at the Secretariat in Hyderabad.
KTR is reported to have requested Talwar to explore the possibility of Anerican investments in the aerospace hub in Hyderabad because the FDI in Indian defence sector provides them huge opportunities.
During the discussions, the minister informed the delegation of his government's wish to invite US President Barack Obama to tour Telangana after his visit to New Delhi as a special guest at the Republic Day parade on January 26.
The delegation was also informed that Telangana chief secretary Rajiv Sharma had written a letter to the American embassy inviting the US President.
