AP gearing to provide III-phase power supply to industrial feeders

Amaravathi, May.3: The Andhra Pradesh was gearing ahead towards providing 24 X 7 III-phase power supply to all industrial feeders even in the rural areas.  The Government, which was contemplating to take up this huge task by segregating agriculture feeders at a cost of Rs.4,000 crore sought Centre’s support to ensure promotion of micro and cottage industries and huge employment generation in the mandal headquarters, major Gram panchayats and villages.

 
During the National Power Minister’s Conference in New Delhi being held on May 3 and 4, Power Minister Kala Venkata Rao has requested Union Power Minister Sri Piyush Goyal to sanction funds to carry out the feeder segregation in rural areas under Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) project.  Citing the huge renewable capacity additions undertaken in the State, Venkat Rao also urged the Centre to consider sanctioning of special procurement based incentives PBI to AP DISCOMs for meeting the Renewable Power Obligations (RPO) targets in the State.
The AP Power Minister has highlighted the achievements of AP Power Sector since 2014 as follows: 13,879 MW increase in installed generation capacity between Jun 2014 and Mar 2017.  APGENCO has achieved 78.43% PLF for the? period 2015-16 against all India average of 62.28%. First state GENCO to commission 2x800 MW? generation units, at Krishnapatnam. Andhra Pradesh has already achieved 100% households electrification in the state on 06th June 2016. ?  The Transmission and Distribution loss of the utilities of the State is one of the lowest in the country i.e. 9.85 % for FY17 till January 2017.

  A pilot project of Smart metering for 1000 no’s services with existing IRDA meters having connect-disconnect features and enabling two way communication between the utility and consumer was taken up in Vishakhapatnam city using AP Fibre grid network and the results are found satisfactory. It is expected to get stabilised the systems in a month’s time. This will avoid huge capital expenditure for purchase of new meters. 100 % feeders are monitored online and Discoms are working on simplifying the tariff categories of consumers. Power demand is projected to grow by 11% in 2017-18. Per capita consumption of electricity increased to 1101 Units in FY 2016-17 from 987 Units in FY 2015-16.  Andhra Pradesh stood 1st in India in Wind Power additions in FY 2016-17 by commissioning 2187 MW of Wind Power and AP alone contributed 40% out of 5,400 MW of capacity added in India.

 Andhra Pradesh stood first in India in the Solar capacity addition by adding 1320 MW in FY 2016-17 as well as in the cumulative capacity added as on 31st March 2017 which is 1867 MW.  In FY 2016-17, 12.5 % of total energy purchased by AP Discoms were renewable (Solar-2.8%, Non Solar-9.7%) which is more than the RPO target of 5 % (Solar-0.25%, Non Solar-4.75%) notified by APERC for FY 2016-17. The World Bank has ranked the Andhra Pradesh as No. 1 in the area of “Energy Efficiency Implementation Readiness” and World Class Energy University being established with special focus on renewable energy.
