Ground water level increased with Mission Kakatiya; Renovating tanks to preserve water: Harish

Hyderabad, March.12: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao has stated that the Telangana State was preserving rain water with the Mission Kakatiya scheme and as part of it the TRS government was renovating the tanks to preserve rain water fully.

Participating in a conference on ‘Water Preservation--Social Responsibility’ here on Sunday at Haritha Plaza, organized by the Irrigation Department and Walk for Water jointly, Harish Rao said the ground water level increased with the Mission Kakathiya works. The State government has taken up Haritha Haram project to increase the green cover up to 33 percent to check reduction of forest areas. The State government was giving Rs 5 per a sapling for their protection every month. The government has targeted to grow 230 crore plants in five years in the State. Saplings were sowed in three rows along all the highways.

The acreage under increased this year with the Sriram Sagar project. The Irrigation Minister suggested to the farmers to concentrate on the crops other than traditional crops like paddy. He said the state government was conducting ‘Jala Jatara’ program to create awareness among the people on March 22 across the State.

MP BB Patil, Walk for Water convenor Karunakar Reddy, Water Resources Development Chairman V Prakash, Irrigation Department’s OSD Sridhar Rao Deshpande and others participated in the program.
