Congress call Governor's speech 'ALL LIES', walkout

Hyderabad, March.10:  Even as Governor ESL Narasimhan was highlighting the achievements of the TRS Government during his address to the joint session of the State Legislature on Friday, the Congress MLAs and MLCs raised slogans terming it as “blatant lies” and staged a walk out in protest from the Assembly.

Ironically the protest and walk out by the Congress members on the opening day of the budget session of the State Legislature came at a time when the Governor in his address in the beginning hoped that the deliberations in both the Houses would be very constructive and in tune with the aspirations of the people and the confidence they had reposed in their elected representatives.

The Governor, flanked by Chairman of Council Swamy Goud and Speaker of Assembly Madhusudana Chary,  began his speech in telugu by conveying his greetings to the members and expressed his confidence that the deliberations would reflect in tune with the sacrifices made by the people for achieving a separate state.

Narsimhan said Telangana, the youngest and most happening state in the country,  has embarked upon many innovative steps to give the much needed boost to the state economy. The infant state has come to be recognized throughout the country for launching many an initiative in a very short span of time.

The Governor went on to explain the achievements like uninterrupted power supply, revamping of minor irrigation tanks through “Mission Kakatiya”, drinking water supply to households through “Mission Bhagiratha” and obtaining the number one rank in the “Ease of Doing Business” which are a few among the many.

Narasimhan noted that there was a significant improvement in the growth of Gross State Domestic Product ( GSDP) since the formation of the new state. As per the advance estimates of 2016-17,  the GSDP was expected to grow at an impressive rate of 13.7 percent at current prices, compared to the estimated all India growth rate of 11.5 percent. At constant prices of 2011-12, this corresponds to 10.1 percent growth, as against the projected national growth rate of 7.1 percent, he added.

The Governor further pointed out that as per the advance estimates, Telangana’s GSDP is estimated to be Rs.6.54 lakh crore in 2016-17, at current prices. The primary sector that includes agriculture and allied activities is likely to register an impressive growth of 17.2 percent, due to the good monsoon and proactive measures taken by the state government to revamp rural economy. This is significantly higher than the All-India growth rate of 9 percent for this sector. The Secondary sector that includes industries and manufacturing is likely to grow at 9.8 percent, which is higher than that of All India growth rate of 8.7 percent. The Services sector is lijkley to grow at 14.6 percent as compared to all India growth rate of 11.9 percent, he added.

As a matter of fact Narasimhan’s  speech, which took over 45 minutes to read the 33-pages, could be well described as progress report of the TRS Government since the formation of the new state.  Even as he was reading his speech, the Congress MLAs and MLCs stood up and waving the budget speech shouted “all lies” and then staged a walk out from the House, In fact it amply signaled the things that would unfold during the budget session, which all said and done would by a stormy affair.
