AU professor's wife, kids stage protest

Visakhapatnam, Nov 6: Wife of the arrested Associate Professor of Telugu of Andhra University J. Appa Rao, Mynavathi, her children six-years old Sai and four years old Charama, along with her relatives and a large number of AU students staged a dharna opposite the office of Superintendent of Police in Visakhapatnam when police failed to allow her to meet her husband. Appa Rao was arrested in the wee hours of Thursday on charges of supplying explosives to the Maoists. The incident shocked the university community, his relatives and friends. Mynavathi said she had come to the SP's office when she was informed that the police would allow her to meet her husband. However, on arrving at the SP's office Additional SP N.J. Rajkumar had asked her to submit a representation, Mynavathi said. Later, Mynavathi joined the protesting students of AU and others. Later when senior faculty members of AU met Rajkumar, they were told that their concern would be conveyed to the superior officers. Prof. Appa Rao is a native of Korrapalli village in G. Madugula mandal.
