Police to issue instant FIRs in Guntur
Guntur, Nov 4: Guntur Police have on Tuesday introduced a new facility where complainants revealing information of any cognizable offence can get an instant First Information Report (FIR) at the District Police Office. Inaugurating the new facility at the DPO premises, Inspector General of Police, South Coastal Range, PV Sunil Kumar said registration of instant FIRs will not only save time but also ensure access to justice for the common man. He also said the idea was to ensure transparency in the criminal justice delivery system and also to ensure timely registration of FIRs. Explaining the process, he said the data provided in cognizable offences will be uploaded and forwarded to the Station House Office (SHO) concerned. The SHO in turn will complete the FIR online and return it to the DPO. The IGP handed over the first instant FIR to a farm worker named Jarugumalli Latha, who is from Phirangipuram after registering a case under section 498 (A).
