GHMC Involves SHGs in Sanitation Work

Hyderabad, Oct.20: Taking the spirit of Swatch Bharat programme, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is taking various measures to keep the city clean and garbage free. An extensive plan has been evolved by GHMC involving Self Help Groups and volunteers in sanitation work, GHMC commissioner Dr B Janardhan Reddy today said. He said to implement sanitation works effectively, entire 25,000 corporation staff, officials and sanitation workers should prepare at least 10 sanitation volunteers each. These volunteers should be trained how to help citizens in keeping the surrounding clean and garbage-free. Besides these volunteers would also help in creating awareness for segregating wet and dry garbage, he said. The commissioner further stated that the services of about 4.50 lakh self help groups in the city would also be taken in keeping the city in sanitation programmes to free from open garbage points. The GHMC also felicitate those volunteers who effectively participate in swatch programme and keep monitoring the situation to make garbage-free city and prevent open garbage points, he said.
