Danish Kaneria, Pakistani leggie, finds safety in India
Danish Kaneria, the Pakistani leg spinner, has come off to India for good, citing discrimination against Hindus in his country. The sudden departure of Kaneria along with wife, children and mother on Sunday night led to much speculation in Pakistan. However, his brother, Vicky Kaneria, is saying Danish had gone to India on a pilgrimage. Danish himself had stated that he was discriminated against in Pakistan, where he was not given equal opportunities during his cricketing career. Had he been Indian, there would have been no such discrimination. Pakistani newspapers have gone to town saying Danish did not go on a pilgrimage but went to seek citizenship. Kaneria is said to be staying in Kochi. The BJP-led government has already taken a policy decision to grant citizenship to Hindu minorities from the neighbouring coutnries.
