DMDK to lose regional party status
Actor Vijayakanth's DMDK in Tamil Nadu is likely to lose regional party status as it could get only 2.4 percent votes in the recent general elections. The Election Commission of India will soon issue an order on the same.
DMDK could not get even one seat in the recent elections and Vijayakanth himself was defeated in the elections.
For getting the status of a regional party, a party has to get 6 percent of votes, two assembly seats and meet some other conditions too.
On the other hand, one leader of DMDK committed suicide in Cuddalore district being unable to digest the defeat of the party in the recent elections.
