Write apology letter to Speaker by Friday, SC tells YCP's Roja

The Supreme Court on Thursday advised the warring RK Roja and the Privileges Committee in the Andhra Pradesh Assmebly not to take extreme positions in regard to the suspension of the YCP leader for 1 year from the House. Both should try to find the middle path, the court said. The court further advised Roja to write a letter to the Assembly Speaker by Friday, apologising for her intemperate language in the House which led the assembly to suspend her for 1 year. The decision on Roja's letter should be taken jointly by counsel for Roja, Indira Jaisingh, and counsel for the Speaker, PV Rao. The House should then take Roja's written apology into cognizance, the court said. The court made it clear that the assembly decision was final in the matter. However, the court would decide what should be done in case Roja refuses to write an apology letter. The court then postponed the hearing to Friday. The Court made interesting remarks, nothing to do with the case but having an overall bering on the State welfare. It said the State faced many problems following the split of the combined AP. Capital, funds, resources the State lacked. It was suffering as a result. For the welfare of the State, both the treasury and opposition benches should stand as one man. The Apex court further said that Roja was the first MLA to knock at the doors of the Supreme Copurt.
