Ghulam Ali `Ghar Vapsi' concert scrapped

Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali's ghazal programme on Monday evening was scrapped in the capital. The programme at the Royal Plaza hotel in Delhi was organised by small screen producer-director Suheyub Ilyasi. On the occasion, Ghulam Ali was to release an audio in connection with the Hindi film, Ghar Vapsi, produced by Ilyasi. At a press conference, the hotel management announced the cancellation of the programme. They stated that the programme was cancelled following threats allegedly by Hindu Sena and Bhajrang Dal activists. Ghar Vapsi, after which the film is titled, is wecome back to members of one religion who return to their own. In the event, it would have communal overtones and add fuel to the intolerance debate which has a lot to do with Ghulam Ali visits to India.
