Mullas of Kota say no to music at Muslim weddings
The mullahs of Kota in Rajasthan have ruled that big band and employing DJs for conducting weddings is taboo. The Muslim leaders ruled that music is not part of the marriage traditions of the community.
They said that the people of the community should perform the weddings without music and DJs.
They said these practices were a big burden on the poor Muslims. Besides, the loud music during the weddings is a nuisance to the others.
They warned that Nikha forms (marriage certificates) would not be given to those who indulge in music and DJing at weddings.
The mullas have made it an economic issue rather than a religious one, saying the poorer Muslims have been put to a lot of hardship on account of the heavy expenditure on entertainment of the guests.
