Centre releases Rs 112 cr for Devadula to TS
Even as Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was meeting with his Maharashtra counterpart in regard to inter-State water projects, the Central government released Rs.112 crore for the Devadula project on the Godavari river on Monday.
The Devadula project, which comes under the Shriramsagar Stage 1, is a series of 13 water reservoirs beginning from Jollagudem to serve the needs of the parched Warangal district.
The Centre has released the first tranche of funds for the project on Monday afternoon. The Central Ministry of Irrigation made the announcement a little while ago.
It is much-awaited good news for Telangana.
The Devadula is a project proposed by the then minister J. Chokka Rao in the Congress government. Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao has a high regard for Chokka Rao. The people, however, remember Chokka Rao for his unorthodox style of functioning.
The flip side is Maharashtra is impounding the Godavari water under Babli and a series of projects upstream. As a result the present day position is not much water is trickling down the Babli.
