Pak cricket board drives the wedge in Dharmasala T20 tie
Pakistan has decided to withdraw from the World T20 cricket tie with India at Dharmasala on March 19 in case the Indian government does not come forth on providing security to the visiting team.
The Indian government should clearly announce security to visiting Pakistan team, Pakistan Cricket Board president Shahryar Khan has said.
The Congress, which is not sparing even cricket in its attack on the BJP-led NDA government, has asked the authorities not to hold the cricket tie in Dharmasala this one time on the ground that Kargil heroes statues were there on the way to Dharmasala cricket stadium.
Pakistan is none to sit back and watch the fun. Islamabad put the ball in the Indian government's court. New Delhi cannot do much in the matter because it is the job of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The BCCI is already facing the music from the Lodha committee. Besides, the board secretary is Anurag Thakur who belongs to the BJP. The Congress has chosen cricket to beat the government with.
Shahryar Khan as much said and called it `internal matter' of India. If the situation continues `we shall ban the tourney.'
Regardless of the Congress interest in Dharmasala, the BCCI can consider shifting the venue to Chandigarh without the Indian government's say in the matter. After all BCCI is its own world, and hesitates to heed even the Supreme Court.
