Eight Maoists killed in Chattisgarh encounter

Eight Maoists have been killed in an encounter with the police in Chattisgarh on Monday night. The police who were combing the Chattisgarh-Charla area found the presence of the Maoists in the Gottepadu forest. Soon an exchange of fire ensued between the police and the Maoists. After the firing ceased, when the police combed the area, they found the bodies of the eight Maoists along with an AK 47 rifle and a large cache of firearms and ammunition. The Gottepadu incident is believed to be a major setback for the Maoists. The Maoists are likely to hit back. Such encounters keep happening in the area. The people, however, do not want to get caught in the cross-fire. Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has, however, earned a name for himself in the people's hearts as provider of foodgrains. But the State has a long way to go to remove economic inequalities.
