Dalits being suppressed in Central varsities, says Mayawati

Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati on Wednesday lashed out at the BJP-led NDA government in the Rajya Sabha, charging that the ruling party was suppressing Dalits in Central Universities. Mayawati said the suppression of the Dalits was the worst in Central universities such as HCU and JNU. Mayawati was speaking on the Jawaharlal Nehru University sedition case, even as the Congress sought an adjournment motion on the issue in the Lok Sabha. It maybe recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described Rohith Vemula as the favourite son of Bharatmata following suicide by the student in Hyderabad Central University. Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court and the Delhi police are going hammer and tongs at the JNU students on the sedition charges. While the Delhi High Court has adjourned to February 29 the bail plea of Kanhaiya Kumar, the police seek to move a fresh remand application, as two more students had to be included in the JNU sedition case.
