Purandeshwari keeps silence on Special Status
While the people of Andhra Pradesh, including the opposition YCP, are demanding Special Status for AP, Daggubati Purandeshwari, former Union Minister and now BJP leader, on Monday stated that the Narendra Modi government had already given considerably for the State and that it was going to do more in the future.
Talking to the media in Ongole, Purandeshwari said that at the March 6 meeting in Rajahmundry, her party president Amit Shah was going to participate. She said the party was agreeable to the demand of a railway zone for Visakhapatnam.
While the entire State is demanding Special Status, the former Congress Union Minister's assertion that the Centre had done enough for the State has raised many eyebrows. Special Status was essential part of the AP Reorganisation Bill. Without that so many projects, including the coastal lifeline of Polavaram, were bound to suffer.
Already the neighbouring States are daggers drawn at AP to deny it the legitimate demand of Special Status conceded by her own Manmohan Singh government. The leaders are expected to do more than adopting complacency when it suits them.
