104-year-old Kanvarbai offers Swach Bharat blessings to Modi
Centenarian Kanvarbai of Dhamtari district in Chattisgarh cannot read and write or see TV. But she has heard of Prime Minister's Swach Bharat programme. So she sold the 10 goats she had and built two toilets in her house.
Kanvarbhai, aged 104, therefore, deserved all the praise for her desire to live in dignity even at the risk of her means of living.
Kanvarbhai had two surprising visitors to her humble dwelling with two toilets on Monday. They were Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Raman Singh.
The Prime Minister, who was attending a Rurban mission in neighbouring Rajnandgaon district, went to Kotabharri village in Dhamtari to felicitate Kanvarbhai. He also prostrated before her for her belief that cleanliness is next to godliness.
Kanvarbai not only got two toilets built in her house, she also tells her neighbours in Kotabharri village to build toilets for maintaining cleanliness.
Normally Indian leaders expect people to fall at their feet, however old they maybe. But not Modi who upholds Indian values. He humbly touched her feet. Kanvarbai's blessings could as well be the blessings of one billion Indians who wish to live in Swach Bharat.
