Banaras student beaten at Modi meet
The public domain, not educated enough to voice different narratives at the tune of foreign funded NGOs by Central universities, is giving a hammering to any sloganeering against the country's values such as the happenings in Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.
A student who shouted out to Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in Varanasi on Monday was beaten allegedly by BJP activists among the students.
The student, Ashutosh Singh, had shouted about student body elections at BHU just as Modi was leaving the stage after finishing his address. The student was grabbed by the police and then allegedly attacked by BJP workers.
Last month, Modi's speech at the Ambedkar University in Lucknow was disrupted by two slogan shouting protesters. The protesters were escorted out by the police and detained for questioning.
The BJP has been apprehensive about trouble during Modi's visit because of protests over JNU student Kanhaiya Kumar's arrest for sedition and the suicide of Hyderabad Central University scholar Rohith Vemula last month.
Some student groups had threatened to observe a black day in Varanasi on Monday. These included the Left-backed groups which have demanded the release of the JNU student.
