How can you write off bank loans, SC asks RBI
The Supreme Court has questioned the Reserve Bank of India decision to write off a whopping amounts as bad loans. Showing displeasure at the RBI decision, the court asked the RBI how did the banks allow the poor people's monies to be looted by big shots. How could the RBI dismiss these as NPAs?
The court asked the RBI what it was doing when the banks were writing off bad loans.
The court further asked for the list of all those who have failed to pay back loans worth Rs. 500 crore and above from all banks, including the banks in the public sector. It told RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan to furnish it with the lists of big time loan violators.
Andhra Bank has made novel protests to get back loans from bigwigs. Its staff would go and demonstrate before the premises of bigwigs, but nothing seems to have worked.
Now that the Supreme Court has taken notice of big-time loan evaders, the banks can hope for recoveries.
