Triple Talaq hits Aligarh Judge's house

The Islamic principle of triple talaq had its fall-out in the home of a UP Judge, whose wife had written to the Chief Justice of India and the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, saying those who get away uttering the alibi should be put behind the bars. The additional judge of Aligarh, Mohammad Zahiruddin Siddiqui, married for second time on August 16 following the death of his first wife. He married Ashfa Khan at a grand wedding attended by the sons of his first wife also. On some occasion, the Additional Judge got angry and uttered the triple talaq. When Ashfa Khan continued to stay home, the judge forcibly drove her out, saying he already uttered those words. Having been abandoned, Ashfa Khan wrote to the Chief Justices, saying she was harassed and subjected to violence before being driven out. Owing to her sorry plight, Ashfa Khan pleaded for justice in the case and putting behind the bars all those who get away from marriage by triple talaq. The Chief justice of India, H.L. Dattu, and the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Matin Ahmed, are expected to reply in the matter. Recently, when the Supreme Court asked the All-India Muslim Personal Law board about its views on triple talaq, the board had said why utterance of triple talaq, even the utterance of single talaq was valid divorce. Also, even a talaq SMS was valid for divorce. Since the issue has reached Shah Bano proportions, the Justices are expected to give their considered view.
