Addl quota for Kapus ok, but not among BCs, warns Krishnaiah

Backward Classes leader R. Krishnaiah on Wenesday clarified that he was essentially a BC leader and had little to do with political parties. Krishnaiah was asked how he could say so when he was elected on the TDP ticket to the LB Nagar constituency in Hyderabad. The BC leader clarified that he had taken the TDP ticket only because it was announced at that time that the party would make a BC member the Chief Minister. So much so, he went on to say he had nothing to do with the TDP either. Krishnaiah said he would be more happier being the president of the Backward Classes rather than as a TDP MLA. He was not willing to carry the banner for any political party. The Kapu agitation in Coastal Andhra has reactivated Krishnaiah. He said he would not mind if the Kapus were given additional reservation, but he would never tolerate if the better off Kapus were included among the Backward Classes. Kapus are the majority community in Coastal Andhra. It appears the fears of the Backward Classes are that their inclusion among the BCs would deprive the true members of quotas.
