TRS heads to two-thirds majority in GHMC poll

The Telangana Rashtra Samiti was on Friday heading towards two-thirds majority in the 150-seat Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. The TRS swept through the twin cities except for the Old City, where its friendly party, the AIMIM, managed to win 25 seats in the poll. The rest of the parties, the TDP, the BJP and the Congress, were reduced to one seat each. As the last reports came in, the TRS was poised to get 103 seats, BJP-TDP six seats and MIM was winning 40 seats. The figures include the seats in which the parties were leading. The Congress maybe reduced to one seat. The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samiti on Friday thanked the people of Hyderabad for voting their party to power in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections without making any distinction as to the place of their origin. Young IT Minister K. Taraka Ramarao thanked the people on behalf of his party. Except for bursting of crackers, the TRS supporters came out in large numbers and were seen dancing in the streets of Hyderabad. They applied pink gulal to their faces.
