Governor's nod for CBI probe against Ashok Chavan
After going round the courts defending himself in connection with the Adarsh building and allotment scam, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok chavan is now faced with a fresh probe by the CBI.
This follows Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao granting permission for a CBI probe against Ashok Chavan. The dates for the CBI probe have not been fixed yet.
The Adarsh Housing Society is a posh, 31-storey building constructed on prime real estate in Colaba in South Mumbai for the welfare of war widows and personnel of Ministry of Defence. Over a period of several years, politicians, bureaucrats and military officers allegedly conspired to bend several rules concerning land ownership, zoning, floor space index and membership to get themselves flats allotted in this cooperative society at below-market rates.
The scam was unearthed in November 2010, which forced the then Chief Minister, Ashok Chavan, to resign.
The Governor's permission is deemed a body blow for Ashok Chavan.
