While Delhi stinks, Kejriwal goes to Garden City
While Delhi is stinking and sinking in mounds of garbage, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had moved to the Garden City of Benguluru for Naturopathy treatment.
Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday accused the ruling BJP in the civic body of instigating the sanitation workers' strike that had caused a massive garbage crisis in Delhi, alleging that the Modi government "wants to impose President's rule in Delhi like Arunachal Pradesh."
Does Kejriwal have knowledge of any Lt-Governor Jung's recommendation in this regard? Not that anyone knows of, but the Delhi Chief Minister continues to blame the BJP in Benguluru.
He said his government did not owe any money for workers who were on strike over salary dues for a week. He would loan Rs. 550 crore to the agencies so they could pay what they owe to the workers.
"We will arrange salaries till January 31, for which Rs 690 crores is needed. We are paying Rs 142 crores immediately," Kejriwal added.
Earlier on Wednesday, a large crowd of sanitation workers stopped traffic and dumped trash on the highway and roads in Delhi. They were protesting against salary dues, causing massive traffic jams.
Around 16,000 teachers of civic body-run schools, 7,000 doctors and several nurses have also joined the protests.
Workers of BJP-led municipal corporations alleged that they have not been paid for three months and it was the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government's duty to release funds. AAP has accused the BJP of instigating the protests for political reasons.
