Gen KV Krishna Rao dead
Gen. K.V. Krishna Rao, former Chief of Army Staff, passed away in Hyderabad on Saturday. He was 92.
Born in Vijayawada on July 16, 1923, he worked in the British Army and later the Indian Army. He was with the Indian Army from 1942 to 1983. He was the recipient of the Visist Seva Medal.
After the Army Service, Gen. Krishna Rao was Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Nagaland, Manipur and Agartala.
Belonging to the Gorkha regiment, he struggled to make India invincible in military terms. Although an Andhra, he remained true to the Gorkhali spirit.
The Gorkha regiment is such that when they are in the field, the enemy simply runs away. That is why the British Army still maintains the Gorkha regiment. Even today the Gorkhas, famous for their hand-to-hand combat with their Kukri, strike a terror in the enemy with their war cry of `Ayo Gorkhali.'
