SP-ruled UP witnesses forced conversions
The Samajwadi Party-ruled UP is lining up potential incidents that could be exploited by intolerance debaters at their convenience. After the Dadri beef scandal, the police under the Akhilesh government were silent spectators for proselytisation and ceremonial eating of beef of a cow in Jalaun district.
At Jalaun, a man who caused the proselytisation of three Hindus to Christianity was dragged from his house at Ramdar and his head ceremoniously shaved.
The man, Avadesh Savita, was allegedly responsible for the conversion of three Hindus to Christianity. Not only that, at their Baptism, Avadesh allegedly forced the three Hindus to eat beef of a cow.
The Bajrang Dal acted in the matter. A ban on cow slaughter is enshrined in the Constitution and is a Directive Principle of State Policy.
Some 200 Bajrang Dal activists raided the house of Avadesh at Ramdar, dragged him out and took him to the nearby Orai town.
There Avadesh head was ceremoniously shaven and also his face was given a clean shave. Then he was made to wear a garland of slippers. He was taken round the town in procession.
The incident took several hours, but the UP police under the leadership of Mulayam's son, Akhilesh Yadav, were conspicuous by their absence in the entire town.
After the public humiliation, Avadesh lodged a copmplaint with the police. The police registered a case, but did not act in the matter or effect an arrest, although the entire Orai witnessed the event.
Orai is the district headquarters of Jalaun, and the police were conspicuous by their absence in the DH. As it happens, Orai is not far from Dadra.
After conniving in the occurrence of such unfortunate incidents, political leaders wax eloquent after the horse had bolted the door, but do not make any attempt to prevent the incidents from recurring.
