ABVP tells Rahul Gandhi to stop sepulchral politics

Rahul Gandhi, Congress Vice-President, who turned up for the second time at the Hyderabad Central University campus in week days, on Friday night was greeted with protests by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad students who demanded that the young leader should stop sepulchral politics. Rahul came to take part in the 18-hour mass hunger strike programme to protest against suicide by reserach scholar Rohith Vemula. The police resorted to a lathicharge to disperse the ABVP students. Many ABVP leaders were taken into custody. The midnight violence at the HCU caused tension in the area. The ABVP had been silent all along. But the re-entry of Rahul Gandhi on the campus was trigger to their protest at HCU. Calling Rahul revisit clear politicisation of the unfortunate suicide by a student, the ABVP said it was going to intensify the agitation and gave a call for Telangana State-wide student bandh. The ABVP said if Rahul was really bothered about the Dalits, why did he not visit Tamil Nadu where three girl students had committed suicide alleging inhuman conditions on their campus. In fact, the HCU imbroglio had begun with the five students, including Rohith Vemula, beating up an ABVP leader, Susheel, badly. But the ABVP had remained silent, hoping the matters would settle down. Now that the Congress is trying to exploit the students' matters, the ABVP has joined the fray in a big way.
