Tamil condition for Telugu students set aside for 2016

The appeal of some 13,000 Telugu medium students across Tamil Nadu has been justified by the Madras High Court. The students in the X standard can now hope to complete their studies in their mother tongue in Tamil Nadu. The AIADMK government of Jayalalithaa had made Tamil medium the pre-condition for education in the State. This has affected the students of Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Urdu media. With the Telugu students approaching the High Court, the court directive is expected to benefit all non-Tamil students. The Madras High Court has removed the Tamil pre-condition to benefit some 40% non-Tamil students in the State. Dealing with the students' appeal as also those by others, Judge Sanjay Kishan Kaul set aside the Tamil pre-condition and said the removal shall apply for this year, and the State Judicial Commission would deal with the longevity of the exemption.
