HC stays land acquisition for Bhogapuram airport
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday put a stay on the land acquisition for Bhogapuram airport in Vizianagaram district following an appeal by people of 12 affected villages in the area.
The people approached the court as notices were given to the people in the villages about the land acquisition.
The State Government had issued a notification for the land acquisition of 5,315 acres for the airport 2 years ago. Ever since the people have been opposing the airport.
North Coastal Andhra as a whole is underdeveloped, but the people are in the forefront of opposing any developmental plan. On Monday, the people near Visakhapatnam had raided and attacked a chemicals factory.
The general public in the villages would rather go as construction labour and watchmen to cities such as Hyderabad but would not want development in the region.
