Midnight encounter near Delhi puts cops on alert

The police are on high alert on all roads leading to nation's capital New Delhi. As the police were checking vehicles coming from Ghaziabad in UP bordering Delhi, there was an exchange of fire between the police and the occupants of a car at midnight on Sunday night. While the police had initiallty described it as an encounter and people feared terrorists, later it turned out that it was in fact an exchange of fire between a robber on the run and the police. The robber named Ankit carried a reward of Rs.25,000 on his head. One person is stated to have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. With hardly 24 hours left for the grand parade to begin in New Delhi, where French President Francois Hollande, would be the Chief Guest, the police are leaving no stone unturned in guarding against terror attacks. Ghaziabad and Meerut in UP are notorious for country-made weapons and criminal activity.
