Massive response expected for `Chalo HCU'

Thousands of university students from all over the country are expected to descend on Hyderabad in response to the `Chalo HCU' call given by Joint Action Committee of the varsity students. Already thousands of students have arrived in the city to participate in the programme. The JAC demands are that the HCU Vice-Chancellor, Apparao, who was allegedly responsible for the suicide of Rohith Vemula, should be immediately suspended and action should be taken against Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, whose letters to the Union HRD Ministry were instrumental in the supension of five HCU students, and BJP MLC Ramachandra Rao. The student JAC is also demanding Rs.50 lakh compensation to the bereaved family of Rohith Vemula. The students made it clear that there was no question of accepting the acting Vice-Chancellor, VPN Srivastava. The students warned that till all their demands were met, their agitation would continue. Many noted writers and political leaders are expected to participate in Monday's `Chalo HCU.'
