Rohith's suicide shocked me: Dattatreya
Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya has said he has been shocked by the suicide of Rohith Vemula, research scholar in Hyderabad Central University. He expressed his deepest regrets to Rohith's family. Dattatreya is facing all-round criticism that it was his letter to the Central Human Resources Ministry that eventually led to the suicide by the HCU research scholar. Dattatreya said he had written two letters on August 10 and 29, relating to anti-social activities in the university. But these are only informative in nature. Action such as suspension is left to the university concerned, which is fully autonomous. He had nothing to do with the university's suspension of five students belonging to the Ambedkar Students Union in HCU. Dattatreya is facing Rohith music at his residence also. On two successive days, there were demonstrations at his Ramnagar residence, leading to arrests.
