Rahul arrives by chartered flight to meet Rohith kin

Congress Vice-Presdient Rahul Gandhi arrived from New Delhi on Tuesday by a chartered flight to meet and sympathise with the kin of the HCU research scholar, Rohith Vemula, who committed suicide on the Hyderabad Central University campus. The unfortunate suicide incident by Dalit leader Rohith at HCU has been politicised. While all the other parties demanded the resignation by Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, whose letter to the Centre led to the suspension of the five HCU scholars, including Rohith, Rahul Gandhi did not make the same demand. In fact, having come from Delhi by chartered flight to Begumpet airport, Rahul sat on the ground as he commiserated with the suspended HCU students. Telangana Pradesh Congress committee president Uttamkumar Reddy and other Congress leaders, who accompanied Rahul, similarly sat on the ground to hear the student speakers. Rahul gave a patient hearing to Rohith's friends who detailed the circumstances leading to the suicide by the research scholar. Where he needed clarifications, Rahul asked for them and was convinced. Perhaps, after a long time, students welcomed Rahul's arrival by raising slogans. Despite the din, Rahul keenly heard the students out.
