Everyone in Hyderabad is a settler, KTR included
The twists, turns and somersaults by ruling TRS leaders to latch on to the Andhra vote in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections are getting curiouser and curiouser.
Before and much after the separate Telangana State was formed, the TRS leaders headed by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao would speak only in harsh language about the Andhras living in Hyderabad.
But come the GHMC elections, the harsh language bordering on expletives has been forgotten. Now the Andhras are being seen as game changers by the TRS.
K. Taraka Ramarao, IT Minister, who is spearheading the TRS campaign, would have referred to the Andhras as settlers not long ago. In many instances, AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi would object to anyone using the term settlers. He did so in the State Assembly also.
The GHMC elections changed all that. KTR today wonders who is not a settler in Hyderabad. "In actuality, who is not a settler in Hyderabad? All are settlers. I have come from Siddipet to settle in Hyderabad,' he added.
KTR admitted that although he may have used harsh language during the Separate Telangana Movement, he no more bore a grudge against the Andhras. So, Seemandhra people should think about the new reality and vote for the TRS, he added.
The Andhras in Hyderabad are traditional voters for the Telugu Desam Party. That is the secret of the success of TDP in the Malkajgiri parliamentary constituency and couple of assembly constituencies in twin cities.
Why is the TRS banking on the Andhras' vote in Hyderabad? They apparently give the edge to any party. What is of interest to poll observers is, would the TDP regain its hold in Hyderabad as in the past, or the new reality of TRS is for real?
