People see terrorists ghosts in Punjab
Alerted by the Pathankot airbase attack, aided and abetted by a Punjab police officer Salwinder Singh, the people have taken it upon themselves to ferret out Pakistan-based terrorists in the State.
On Tuesday, people have alerted the authorities saying they have seen two persons in Army fatigues and moving about in a suspicious manner in Ferozepur. The police have quickly moved in to surround Ferozepur Cantonment, fearing it might be the target.
The authorities concerned have taken up combing operations in the Cantonment. This has caused quite a bit of commotion in Ferozepur.
A couple of days ago, people in border Gurdaspur district also alleged having seen two persons in Army fatigues and moving about suspiciously. The authorities flew drones to spot them. A drone signaled the signs of activity in a 30-acre sugarcane field. The authorities surrounded the sugarcane field and awaited the so-called terrorists to come out of cover.
When nothing happened for a long time, the sugarcane field was ordered to be cut down before harvest. It was done, but there were still no signs of terrorists.
The whole confusion in Punjab's border districts is on account of the number of terrorists who attacked the Pathankot airbase. While the Army and other authorities have fixed the figure at six, only four bodies were found after the end of the defensive action. Two terrorists remained to be accounted for. The Army surmised that two terrorists might have perished when a building was reduced to ashes within the Pathankot airbase perimeter.
It is the two bodies that are missing that is causing all the confusion. And people are seeing the two terrorist ghosts everywhere. Also, the Assistant Commandant of the Punjab Armed Battalion, Salwinder Singh, who was the only police official to have seen and gaven his car to the terrorists, who were getting delayed to storm the airbase, had also similarly given a random number as the strength of terrorists.
Salwinder Singh reportedly was compromised by phoney honey trap run by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence using sweet-talking girls. Facing an inquiry, the police officer appears to be in a state of utter confusion.
