Two eves tortured for New Year Eve party

Police maybe using third-degree methods on confirmed criminals, but using the same on revelers on New Year's Day is abhorrent. The incident that took place in Aurangabad in Marathwada brings the debate on torture methods in police stations back on the agenda. A group of seven youths, including two girls, went to a hotel in the city to celebrate New Year's Eve party. Except for the girls, all had drinks. One of the youths who had one too many started misbehaving. Past midnight, the group decided to disperse and took the tipsy youth to his residence at Devagiri colony and also the girls to their residence. After dropping the tipsy youth at his residence, as the group reached the city bus-stand, the tipsy youth returned. For spoiling the party and returning again, they beat up the tipsy youth. As the drunken youth started running, he hit something and fell down, sustaining serious injuries. He died on the way to hospital. The police intervened. A male SI and a female SI took the girls to police station. The girls were then subjected to unspeakable torture. They were stripped and red chilli powder sprinkled on where it would hurt them the most. They were then forced to give signed undertakings and let off in the evening. One of the girls along with her mother later went to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar and reported the matter. The police chief immediately ordered a departmental investigation into the methods used by the Police SIs and constables in the police station. The police should also tell why the girls were picked up and not the boys.
