Islamic Republic Gambia introduces dress code for women
Gambia, which transformed itself into an Islamic Republic recently, has come out with an Islamic dress code for women, among other things.
Introducing the Sahria laws, the West African country authorities said women working in government departments and agencies should cover their hair fully. Their dress should be such that their hair is completely covered. Particular stress was laid on hair being totally covered. Likewise, no part of the body should be made visible.
The small country of 2 milion population is 90% Muslim. It became an Islamic Republic in December last, and the Sharia law was introduced within a month.
As such, the West African region is one of the most underdeveloped regions in the world.
