RTC staff gets hiked allowance for `double duty'

The Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation has announced a New Year's gift to its running staff. The drivers and conductors of APSRTC will hereafter get an enhanced allowance. Those doing `double duty' will get the increased allowance. A driver doing double duty will hereafter get Rs.350 and a conductor Rs. 300. Hitherto the rates were Rs.250 and Rs.200. This gift was announced by APSRTC MD Sambasiva Rao in a press release. In the combined State, the RTC staff had to put up a struggle every now and then to get their demands met. Since the separation of the two States, the managements seem to have become a bit liberal with their staff, considering the hard work the staff puts in to keep the people and wheels moving.
