SC rejects plea on GHMC voters' list

A petition to block the notification announcing the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections was rejected by the Supreme Court on Monday. The court said it was guided to take the decision going by the weightiness of the issue of removal of votes. The court directed the petitioner, one Mahesh, of Hyderabad, to approach the Hyderabad High Court instead. The petitioner said as many as 7.9 lakh voters have been removed from the electoral lists, and hence the issuance of the notification should be blocked. Till a comprehensive review was not carried out into the missing votes, the notification cannot be issued, the petitioner said. The court said it was a weighty issue and it could not intervene at this stage.
