Chicken prices up 25%
Chicken prices have shot up by 25% in Hyderabad during the festival season. Christmas, New Year and Sankranti and then Kanuma have made the traders to cash in on the seasonal demand.
Skinless chicken, which used to be sold for Rs.160 a kg, is now selling at Rs.205 a kg. Dressed chicken is now being sold at Rs.175 a kg. The prices rose on Monday last.
Along with chicken, the prices of eggs and mutton have also gone up.
The people are yet to recover from the shooting up of pulses prices. Now if mutton and chicken prices are going up, they have little food choices left. If vegetable prices too shoot up in the pricey season, the majority will have to put up with bare essentials.
As usual, the market leaders say this is a passing phase during the festival season.
