Police arrest AP man for dumping 6-day-old girl under bus in Mumbai
Hyderabad, Dec 12: Police in Mumbai are said to have arrested a man from Andhra Pradesh for abandoning his six-day-old girl under a bus near a garbage pile on Jawaharlal Nehru Road a month ago.
The accused, identified as Jagannath, is said to have wanted a son. However, when a daughter was born, he did not accept her.
Police also arrested his wife, identified as Sapna Sahu, for abetting the crime.
Apparently, a bus driver is believed to have found the infant girl on November 5 under his bus near Apna Bazar Mulund (west). Later, he and a garbage collector alerted the Mulund police visited the spot and took the baby to the police station.
On the directions of doctors the police started feeding the baby with milk.
Later, police launched a hunt for the parents of the baby girl in neighbouring slums and housing societies. Just two weeks ago they were able to identify the couple, who had recently separated from their family after they lost a baby girl.
