Extortion case: Court sends TRS MLA Mahipal Reddy to jail

Hyderabad, Dec 11: Sangareddy additional judicial first class magistrate D. Durgaprasad has been sentenced Telangana Rashtra Samiti MLA from Patancheru near Hyderabad, Gudem Mahipal Reddy, to two-and-a-half years' imprisonment for extorting money from an industrialist, sources said. The magistrate awarded the jail term along with a fine of Rs 2,500 after the prosecution proved the charges of extortion against the MLA. However, the court postponed the execution of the judgment by a month as the MLA sought time to appeal at the district court.
