Sultan Bazaar traders relent, metro rail to pass through the market

Hyderabad, Dec 7: Traders at the busy Sultan Bazaar finally agreed to end their long-drawn agitation and allow the Hyderabad Metro rail to pass through the area. The traders are said to have reached an agreement on this issue with the Hyderabad Metro Rail officials and representative of the Telangana government. Following the agreement, the GHMC and the Metrol Rail officials can now widen the road to make it a 80 feet road at Sultan Bazaar, i.e. from Bata Showroom to Andhra Bank crossroads. Originally, the Metro Rail officials wanted the width of the road to be 100 feet, as per the master plan. Later speaking to the media, president of Sultan Bazaar Traders Joint Action Committee V. Kishen Yadav said, "The officials agreed to reduce the road width to 80 ft in the roads connecting to Sultan Bazaar, 80 percent of the traders, including property owners and hawkers have also agreed to it." He then added that the, “Metro Rail authorities have assured us of minimal property acquisition and demolition.”
