Cabinet gives nod to Vizag Metro

Hyderabad, Nov 19: Brushing aside concerns among the people of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh cabinet has finally given its approval to the detailed project report of the Vizag Metro Rail Project. People of Visakhapatnam were worried that the state government was more focused on Vijayawada Metro and was not keen on the Metro at Visakhapatnam. But, now, with the cabinet approval, they are a happy lot. However, it could take another four months for the detailed project report (DPR) to get the approval of the Union Ministry of Urban Development. Only after that, the state government can form and entrust a special purpose vehicle with the responsibility of Vizag metro works, sources said. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has been entrusted the task of preparing the DPRs for the Metro project. Its task got delayed as the government had extended one of the Metro corridors to Gajuwaka.
