AP cabinet for raising land lease period from 33 to 99 years

Hyderabad, Nov 18: Andhra Pradesh cabinet is said to have taken a decision to change rules in order to raise the of government land lease from its existing 33 years period to 99 years. This change is being envisaged to facilitate the selection of a partner for Amaravati's development under the Swiss Challenge method. As per the AP Infrastructure Development Enabling Act 2001, government lands can be leased out for only 33 years. As per the Act, "Government-owned land may be provided at concessional lease charges for projects, where ownership would revert to the government within a maximum period of 33 years from the date of grant of land." A GO is expected to be issued to extend the period to 99 years in the next few days.
