Mayor of Chittoor town murdered

Hyderabad, Nov 17: In what appears to be a case of old feud, a gang of three persons from Karnataka attacked Chittoor town mayor Katari Anuradha and her husband Katari Mohan at the mayoral chambers in Chittoor Municipal Corporation of Chittoor town early today with revolvers and swords. The miscreants escaped from the scene of crime. Even as the Two-Town Police were rushing Anuradha and Mohan, a senior TDP leader, to the hospital, the mayor breathed her last. Since Mohan was critically injured, police immediately shifted him to CMC hospital at Vellore. Tension prevailed in Chittoor town following the murder of the town mayor. Meanwhile, police deployed armed forces at vulnerable points in the town in order to avert any untoward incident. Early reports said, two persons had surrendered to the Chittoor-I town police. However, it is not clear whether they are among the attackers. It may be recalled that Katari Mohan happens to be a prime accused in the attempt to murder of former Chittoor MLA CK Jayachandra Reddy, alias CK Babu, a decade ago. At that time, CK Babu had escaped in the attack. Later, Mohan unsuccessfully contested on the TDP ticket from Chittoor for the Legislative Assembly.
