Rivulets in spate, reservoirs receive heavy inflows in Chittoor

Hyderabad, Nov 16: With incessant rains hitting Rayalaseema since Sunday morning, all major rivulets in Chittoor District are in spate, reports said. Rain badly impacted Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Puttur and Nagari towns. Meanwhile, Swarnamukhi and Kalangi rivers are overflowing. Smaller streams flooded the nearby localities throwing life out of gear. The downpour impacted Puttur, Srikalahasti, Buchi Naidu Kandriga, Varadaiahpalem, Thottambedu, K.V.B. Puram, Narayanavanam, Pichatur and Satyavedu mandals of eastern Chittoor. Irrigation projects like the Araniar medium irrigation project built on River Aruna in Pichatur mandal received 1400 mcft of water. The Krishnapuram project in Karvetinagaram mandal received 199.39 metres with the inflow pegged at 1800 cusecs. The Swarnamukhi anicut is receiving inflow at the rate of 37,850 cusecs. Several tanks breached and inundated nearby villages, leading to submergence of Tirupati - Railway Kodur highway, B.N. Kandriga - Santhavellore road and Yerpedu - Venkatagiri highway.
